RIYAD JOUCKA - DIRECTOR / TUTOR

Riyad Joucka Is an Architect and Researcher, currently based in Hong Kong.

He earned his Master of Architecture at the Emergent Technologies & Design programme of the AA School of Architecture (London, UK). His thesis HYBIOS received a 'Thesis  Distinction'.

Riyad has taught AA Visiting Schools in Paris, Penang, Shanghai and directed AA Visiting School Jordan 2013. He is currently the director of AAVS Dubai.

His research is focused on simplifying the nonlinear logistics of complex building construction through material research and computation.

SURYANSH CHANDRA - UNIT TUTOR

Suryansh is an architect working with the Code Research Group in Zaha Hadid Architects since 2009. He completed his post graduation from the DRL at the AA in 2009 and graduated from Sushant School of Art & Architecture, India in 2004.

He has tutored the AA Emergent Technologies masters program in the past, tutored several visiting schools in Europe, China, India and the US, and presented his work at various universities across the world. His work involves understanding material behaviour and physics governing it, and developing innovative new computing mechanisms to design with it.

ALESSIO ERIOLI - UNIT TUTOR

Alessio Erioli is Engineer and Senior Researcher at Università di Bologna where he also teaches Architectural Design, MArch in Biodigital Architecture, PhD in Architectural Engineering, co-founder  and coder at Co-de-iT (www.co-de-it.com).

He has been advisor of many Master Thesis in Engineering and Architecture; he has lectured for (among others) IaaC (Barcelona), AA Visiting school in Paris, Accademia Belle Arti Bologna, TU Innsbruck, Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico). His interests interweave teaching & design ecologies in Computational design, articulating complexity to trigger emergent potential. His recent interests regard the relations among matter and agency: Agent-Based modeling simulation of Complex Adaptive Systems in architecture coupled with form-finding strategies. He is also skilled in computational design & modeling on several platforms .

MUHAMMED SHAMEEL- UNIT TUTOR

Muhammed Shameel is an architect currently teaching at Deparment of Architecture, AUST - Ajman.

He completed his master degree in Architecture and Urbanism at the AA School of Architecture, London - UK. His master thesis at the Design Research Laboratory (DRL), named ‘W.A.V.E’, addresses regeneration of the disappearing coastline along the estuaries.

On completing the postgraduate program, he worked with world renowned architect, Zaha Hadid Architects, London for over two years.

He has also worked on product designs for B&B Italia and Ize -London.

Shameel joined ‘Caravan’, a design collective, in 2012. His expertise on digital platforms and fabrication methodologies has greatly influenced some of the recent works of the team Caravan.
